The Thomson Collection at the Art Gallery of Ontario
To celebrate the recent opening of the Thomson Collection galleries at the transformed Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto – redesigned by Canadian architect Frank Gehry – five new books recording Ken Thomson’s historic donation of 2,000 superb works of art are being published by Skylet in association with the AGO.
The first book is on Ken Thomson the collector and surveys the collection as a whole, exploring the particular character of his taste, describing and evaluating individual pieces and setting them in their historical contexts. The four other books, with similar purpose, are devoted to special areas of the collection: medieval ivories and works of art; the recently rediscovered masterpiece by Rubens, The Massacre of the Innocents; ship models, spanning some 350 years; and Canadian art, of which the Thomson Collection was the largest private holding.
